About - Complementary Therapies

I was lucky enough to move to Wales in May 2018 and settled in Pembrey, Burry Port at the end of October with my husband, son and daft moggies and have since been joined by a friendly Golden Retriever. (The animals are not allowed in the treatment room, so phobias or allergies should not be an issue.) We absolutely love it here and have received such a warm welcome from the locals and feel truely part of the community now. We are lucky enough to have a lovely view over Pembrey and Burry Port, as well as the sea and Gower Peninsula, which you can just see from my tranquil therapy cabin, at the bottom of the garden.

I previously lived and practiced in Basingstoke, Hampshire, where I ran a successful therapy business for 4 and a half years, since 2014. Of course, it was hard to say goodbye to my lovely, loyal clients, many of whom have become good friends over the years, but I had to follow my dream of living by the sea and leading a more peaceful, healthier lifestyle. Not daunted by a challenge, I looked forward to starting again and meeting some lovely new people and hopefully forging some new friendships along the way!

I lived in Basingstoke all my life and attended Brighton Hill School and Basingstoke Technical College. After taking my A levels, I found myself using my people and communication skills in various customer service roles, from credit control to complaints handling, and have been fortunate to have had a successful career with several major organisations. Needless to say, these were often highly stressful, so I am very aware of the effects that stress can have on our bodies and our need to find a way of coping, especially over a prolonged period.

In recent years I found myself re-evaluating life, after being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and wanted to try and dispense with stress and negativity. I felt that I wanted to do something that really helped people and made a difference to their lives, while at the same time enhancing my own life. I reduced my working hours to gain a better home and work balance. I also took my interest in Complementary Therapies to the next level by enrolling on an introduction to Reflexology course at Basingstoke College of Technology and fell in love with it, finding it a joy to carry out treatments on others, as well as receiving treatments myself! I then followed that with, and successfully passed, an "Association of Reflexologists" (AOR) accredited VTCT Level 3 Diploma Course in Reflexology with the reputable "Calming Influences" School in Southampton. This included over 100 case studies, coursework, and exams in Anatomy and Physiology, to better understand the workings of the Human body.

The AOR is the respected UK governing body for Reflexologists and ensures that member therapists are qualified and adhere to a certain standard and code of conduct. As a full member of the AOR, I am committed to continual personal development and will be adding further therapies in future, as well as continually looking for ways to improve my knowledge and skills (CPD). Until my move, I also volunteered weekly at the local Hospice, providing Reflexology to in-patients and attended a Dementia Care Home, on a monthly basis, providing hand reflexology for the residents.

I have also completed courses and received diploma certification in Indian Head Massage and in Reiki and I am a Reiki Master/Teacher, so that I can offer my clients a variety of treatment choices which means they can mix and match, as required. It is becoming increasingly popular for clients to book for Reflexology and Indian Head Massage in the same session for the ultimate relaxation experience! In addition, I now specialise in Reflexology Supporting Conception, having taken a CPD course on the subject, and have also added Facial Reflexology to my services.

I feel blessed that I have been able to change career for something so worthwhile and that I have been able to set up Usher Therapies to help those of you who are looking to improve your own lives and health. Please do get in touch for a chat! I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Sue Usher (MAR.)
